  1. Just started my garden. Wife and step-daughter came out to help. We have 4 4ft squares. 2 are 6" deep and the other 2 are 12" deep. Did the soil amendments today w cow manure compost to the clay soil. I compost so that goes into the beds throughout the season. We are doing tomatoes, grape tomatoes, corn, okra, beans, carrots and cantaloupe. We also planted 3 blueberry bushes. My biggest problem are pests. Mammal and insects. I try to keep on top of them. Here's hoping the neem oil works.

  2. I think of small gardens as raised beds or planters. This has some good hints but I have a concrete back yard.

  3. Thank you for the tip on treating the types of soil we have. Looking forward to raised bed planting due to the excessive rock bed on our property.

Peat moss isn't eco-friendly, because it is harvested from bogs where spaghnum miss died and got processed at the bottom of the bog due to pressure and other environmental factors. The bogs' ecosystem is destroyed because of this. Is there a substitute for peat moss???

  5. Carrots, Swiss chard, lettuces, arugula, peas & pole beans and flowers… & herbs! 🙏🌟 I’m going to sow tomato seeds 😅. 😋
