Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. We had tons of aphids on our peas this year during peak crop. But not long later, the ladybug larvae showed up, grew up, and ate up. Maybe we should've planted just a little bit later.

  2. I want to start gardening so bad, but I see TONS of videos on what and how to play but not much on how to store or keep a harvest…. does it go to waste? Do I have to buy a giant freezer first? idk 😩

  3. You have me excited for next Spring. I live in Massachusetts and plan on growing sweet potatoes, carrots, beans, peas, peppers, and beets. I have lots of animals and a couple rods in my back so I wanna grow food on tables in giant pots so I don't have to bend and worry about rabbits. Any tips you can give me on this type of growing? I figured if greenhouses can do it why can't I. I planted 6 blueberry bushes in the ground this year. Birds love them, lol. Just retired and will be a great hobby. I never had a green thumb

  4. Thank you. Great intro to new gardening techniques. Growing mostly in pots, some success and some failures, but getting there. Learning something new all the time.😊

  5. Is the rust on some of those older metal raised beds bad? Doesn't that leach into the soil and plants?

  6. Thats where everyone goes wrong is by using sprays to kill bugs. You will never have a healthy garden, using pesticides, is the single worst thing you can do, it will cause a domino effect and ruin your gardens potential.

  7. Hehe..very informative. I have lots of clay from the flood so this give me something to think about 🤔

  8. In another video you put a ladybug back into the garden, saying it was important i cleaning up other bugs. In this video you label the lady bug as a pest. Can you explain please?

  9. Rocket Surgery! Made me laugh out loud. I been a subscriber from when the channel had about 500k. Amazing to see it at almost 2 million. Well deserved. Thanks again for all the content and making me laugh once in a while!
