Haha I had similar issues. I planted “big boy tomatoes” but they turned out to be much smaller than I expected.

I bought two ‘butternut squash’ plants that produced zucchinis this year. Since I already had two zucchini plants, this was…a bit much. Last year I had four mystery peppers that were labeled green bells. Two turned out to be poblanos, one dark purple bell, and one was something else.
verybadassery
Likely the mislabeling. 2 large factors that determine size are sunlight and phosphorus. So if those 2 are taken care of you should be golden as far as what you can do.
habaceeba
I mislabel my starts at home at least once a season. A big grow operation surely has the same issue on a larger scale.

9/10 of my tomatoes are Roma. The other seems to be a pear type. I literally only have one open packet of seeds. Weird things happen when growing living beings.

Those little tags fall out all the time and sometimes some kids think they’re funny by switching them.

Those are not Cherokee Purple.
Seems like a lot of posts this year about mislabeled plants. We always start our own from seed but had a mishap moving a full tray of tomato plants. So we had some mystery tomatoes too!
Charlotte4me
Feel for ya. Those Cherokee tomatoes are huge and THE best! Some moron put the tag on a cherry tomato. I’d go somewhere else next year. Or grow from seed. Tomatoes aren’t hard to grow from seed. I always do mine that way.

Definitely not a cherokee purple. Mislabeled. Ive worked in farming/greenhouse/nursery my entire adult life and let me tell you new workers have no clue whats going on and they dont seem to care either. We are expected to plant fast, and are timed too, so mistakes happen and quality control is an issue.

I’d guess mislabeled. The plant looks healthy.

These are very similar to my “sweet treats” and they are delicious.
jimbonsf
It had to be misidentified, as those are cherry tomatoes, not Cherokee Purple heirlooms.

Planted zucchini, got a cantaloupe, I was so confused and absolutely hate cantaloupe 🤦🏻♀️😂

Catfished by a tomato 😭

Same thing happened to me – my mother started some “Cherokee Purple” (gave me one), and that’s exactly what we got. Hers were seeds, though. (They are the leafiest tomatoes I’ve ever grown. It’s a scavenger hunt finding the fruit.)
newhome4me
This is why I plant tomatoes from seed for my home garden. I have had this happen a few times when buying plants from a retail store. Also, you can save seeds from your best growers for the next season.

This happened to me with a Cherokee Purple seedling this year!! Ugh so frustrating. I contacted the greenhouse where I bought it and they are contacting their grower about it. They also offered me a free flat of plants for fall or next spring. Definitely worth bringing up with the place you bought them.

I normally grow from seed but this year I grabbed a 6 pack of jalapeno starts from a Hall’s Nursery to fill out my garden a little more
Didn’t notice till I got them home and started potting them that one cell was definitely not any kind of pepper or other nightshade.
So I ended up with five jalapenos and one… Drumroll…. sweet basil.
aott88
This happened to me too!!!!!!! Mine was labeled for big tomatoes and got cherry :/ still tasty and good tossed in some pasta
Clumsy_Thunder
This happened to me this year too! Thought I was getting regular tomatoes, but ended up being cherry tomatoes
dineydenny87
I thought i was crazy. I bought this thinking they will be huge purply tamatoes. Was so excited seeing tons of flowers which turned into these teeny tiny cherry tamoatoes. Fml

My friends mom had the exact same issue, she too was growing super sweet 100’s not purple cherokees.

That’s a bummer but definitely try cher purples again. They did really good for us this year.

Super sweet 100s maybe?
Treskiii28Hundo
That’s some type of cherry tomato. Must have been mislabeled
lrnhwkns
I bought white onion seeds on a whim, realised how long they take to grow and that I’d missed the season so did lots of research on what to do with them including setting them for next year. I felt really proud that I wasn’t letting my blunder defeat me and that I could very well be eating onions grown from seed eventually, just was gonna take a few extra steps.
Turns out it was all pointless because they’ve ended up being the tiniest spring onions and not at all the type advertised on the packet lol
theRealMrBrownstone
Did ya buy it at a grocery store parking lot garden center? Because that’s where you play the “lets see what you end up with” game.
Vault13Tech
They’re bigger than the picture…?
But yea those are soooo not Cherokee Purps. Sorry you got tomato scammed. Do they at least taste good?
Ok_Report_3651
I’m a little like that with my squash. In stores I see yellow squash 25% bigger (estimate) than what’s in my garden, and my bell peppers are half the size I expected. Feels odd harvesting them “early”, but the taste fine. Anyway, hope you get answers. I just wanted to chime in and say you did great getting them this far. 👍🏽
