If I cut a 1ft long (2” diameter) underground root from the branch canopy of a large maple tree, what are odds it will survive & thrive?

  1. It’ll be fine. Don’t keep doing it, but it’ll be okay.🌳❤️

Just one root? Is that a silver maple or red (swamp) maple? It will be fine. It may lose a major branch in time, but they drop branches anyway.

Pretty sure it would be fine. Try asking over in r/marijuanaenthusiasts as they may have more experience

I understand the angst, I hate cutting roots, the local internet provider installed new fiber optic cable two years ago and took out a fair portion of one of my maple’s tree roots in the process (I lost much sleep), it has had no ill effects, it will be fine so long as it isn’t a regular occurrence, give it a hug and rest easy knowing that you care about its well being… 🙂

Maples are really hardy trees, nothing to worry about. Some varieties like the vine maples native to Seattle will take root from a 2-3″ diam cut branch
