What should I do with my avocado plant over winter? (details in comments)

I planted an avocado pit back in February. It’s been outside growing pretty well (I think) in a small pot with a cactus/succulent potting soil/compost mix, but I know I’ll need to bring it inside as it will soon get too cold in my area (zone 7 or 8).

I have some lights set up in the garage so I can give it artificial light or leave it in a south-facing window during the winter.

    Some questions I have:

Should I repot it? Change the growing medium?
Should I treat it with something to prevent unwanted pests from being transfered inside?
Should I remove some or all of the foliage?

Note: I don’t actually plan on growing avocados. I just think it’s a cool looking plant and want to see if I can keep it alive as a house plant during the winter and outdoors during the warmer months.

    Any tips are much appreciated!

I’d repot it, mix existing soil with some new, put it in a location that gets good sun, talk to it daily and you’ll be good.
