Are these good guys?

Only for things which eat them.

    They are destructive insect pests.

  2. lazylittlelady

They could become any type of beetle-some bad, some good, some neutral.

  3. Sarahhydroponic

    Holotrichia Sauteri Moser.

In the young period, them live underground, often biting the roots, causing poor root growth, yellowing leaves, and slow growth. The damage is often not detected in the early stages until the plant has changed color or died. If severely damaged, the plant may die due to being bitten by all roots. Adult worms eat the woody part of the roots.

In addition to direct harm, white worms are also vectors of plant virus diseases. Often causes heavy damage in less cultivated gardens, and rotten leaves are collected for destruction.

Those look like cranefly larvae. They can cause damage to your lawn by eating the roots

I had Japanese beetles really bad this year and they are grubs originally. I don’t think those are the same but I’m fairly certain that grubs= 👎

  6. momma02082022

Grub worms. They will turn into June bugs.

  7. Archangel757

No, they eat the roots of your favorite plants. My dog loves them. They are healthy snacks. They’re actually healthy for humans as well, if you want to go that route.

    depends on your perspective:

Are you a chicken – yes

are you a gardener – no

  9. bobcouldbeyouraunt

They eat your grass roots, so from the lawns perspective they’re pests, but from a nature perspective they have a role to play in the ecology

They are good for the environment, not for priced vegetables though. Put them somewhere where you don’t mind them eating roots and leave them alone. They got nearly eradicated because people think they arw thw absolute worst and kill them in the millions, which is now resulting in them not maturing into bugs and thus leaving birds in may/june without this very nutritious and easy food source. Resulting in less birds

When I was young we had years were we could get fifty of them out of the air by just swinging a small net one time. Now I don’t see them anymore.

  11. Meemeemiaw23

Totally. I used them to make a compost.

I would try not to use commercial poisons, which will kill beneficial soil organisms as well. I have had good luck with Milky Spore, which is more natural. Reminds me, I need to go get some (new house) and the skunks are digging up my pathetic lawn to get to the grubs.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to annihilate them, especially with chemical means. A master gardener I know says “if nothing is eating your plants, your not part of the ecosystem.”

  14. paintblljnkie

Japanese Beetle grubs. Definitely the bad guy. Unless you’re a chicken.

  15. Justingravity

My 4 years old is obsessed with those grubs. He keeps digging around pulling them off the dirt and now we have a large container at home full of dirt and countless grub worms. He wants to wait and see them turn into beetles! Bottom line: great insect pets and good science project for a toddler 🤣

  16. Majestic_Dog1571

No. They are beetle grubs and should be eaten by chickens or birds. Circle of life and all.

  17. WaltFlowers65

No they are grubs they eat the roots of plants

  18. Throwaway_pagoda9

Good for chickens and birds. Bad for your garden

  19. Sufficient_Log5365

Not really cuz while they are a delicious snack for some critters the critters tend to dig them up uncaring where they are located garden or grass and destroy whatever’s in their way to getting that tasty snack combine that with the fact that they also themselves destroy roots for pleasure and most of them grow up to become beetles that just love to destroy ornamental flowers so I’d say bad most grubs live their entire life causing destruction from the day that hatch to when they die 😂

  20. Hugh_Jaynus_83

It’s grub season! Those are grubs, they’ll leave your grass annihilated to where you can just pick it up off the soil like a rug.

Possums and chickens LOVE snacking on them, on a good note lol

  21. clubwisebooboo

I don’t want no grubs. A grub is a guy that can’t get no love from me.

  22. Ozaratree

    Nope

Unless you have chickens? then yes..

  23. Eywadevotee

Japanese beetle grubs… 😵😵😵 use for fishing bait or feed to chickens… or burn with fire 😲

  24. Natural_Property9774

    Really depends…
    For fishing, hell yeah.
    In your garden…not at all.

  25. InTheTwilight001

Hells no. If you’ve found this many, please be sure there’s a whole lot more. We struggle to get rid of them, the destroy the roots of everything. We’ve found bait but it makes fruits and veg inedible 🙁

  26. BluDucky

I worked at a retail store and these guys infested the entire store. We always found them under ceiling vents so the theory was that a beetle laid eggs up there and they all started to hatch. But they create this slimy, slippery mess when stepped on and it was disgusting.

  27. noobpwner314

Only if you enjoy those brown beetles that always fly by your ears at night.
