Sneak peek of Sunday’s shop update! Also wanted to share a little about my process of creating these color field paintings, which were a happy accident.. just like Bob Ross embraces👩🏼🎨
The watercolor paper that I use is arches 140 lb bright white cotton, I hand tear each piece for a nice deckled edge. This kind of edge looks great floated on a mat in a frame. I keep about six or so watercolor palettes on my desk and mix each color that you see in each layer, one at a time. I have been obsessed with color combinations and how they evoke certain emotions and memories so it is a act of chance but also a little bit planned as to which color combination I initially go for. I use a wet on wet technique layer by layer and experiment with watermarks while working. I love that they look like skies or minerals so sometimes I try to exaggerate that. The white border that you see is simply the white of the paper left unpainted, I don’t use tape instead I use a light pencil line to guide me. After each painting has cured, I flatten it. Then I hang it up, stare at it and whatever feeling or memory, maybe of a landscape or a stone or a moment that I once had becomes the name. I love Picassos quote “painting is just another way of keeping a diary” and that’s what these are for me. Can’t wait to show you the rest!
