A few years ago I started dealing with this weed. I think it came from my neighbor, he got it from somewhere and it went to seed and he mowed it spreading it everywhere
regardless of where it came from, it's my problem now, I can't keep up. i have a Grampa's Weeder I use that pulls them up well, if they're small enough, or a half shovel I dig them up with. ive tried spraying them individually with roundup, and it seems they still spread.
I have more this year than I ever have, and it feels like 2 weeks ago I didn't see a single one, now I have a whole Devils Carpet of them, two of which the flower is about to pop open so I've got to endure the spines with my shovel to dispose of it

Dig them up root and all and get each of them before they have time to bloom and multiply. You can spot spray for them but it’s best to dig the root up to be certain your killing them
Yeah, for now dig them up, then spot spray the new ones that you see pop up. In the future you’ll have to put down a preemergent before the season for them to grow starts up. I did a quick google search and dithiopyr seems to be the choice for this weed. As far as timing and soil temp, I’m not sure what your region would need for scheduling of this applications.
Grandpa’s Weeder tool
Fiskars weed puller is magical. I did like 7 buckets of dandelions from my 1000’ front yard one year. Free aeration. Now I just toss it across the handlebars of my mower and pull stuff as I mow since there’s not much left.
Granpas weeder…
Grab some Q4 and kill it along with all the other weeds in the photo.
They are annoying. You have to get the whole root or it can regenerate. But you can collect them, they have medical properties. Like they help with joint pain if you eat the leaves.
