ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The City of Asheville, alongside the Urban Forestry Commission and Riverlink, celebrated Arbor Day in the River Arts District.

CRADLE OF FORESTRY REOPENS FOR 2026 SEASON

The nature-based holiday is meant to help improve the community by planting trees.

At the event, groups helped plant trees to help with flood prevention and provided educational opportunities.

“We’re hoping to educate people today in what trees do for our environment and how they support our rivers and river banks and they help slow water, take care of stormwater and that sort of thing. And then we also want people to understand that you know you need to plant trees and you need to plant a lot of them to help with your situation at home, as well as down here in the repairing areas,” said Keith Aiken, urban forester for Asheville.
