Gardeners across Southeast Texas will have a chance to stock up on everything from pollinator-friendly plants to fruit trees this weekend as the Jefferson County Master Gardeners hold their spring plant sale Saturday.
Organizers said the sale will feature hundreds of plants “of all colors and shapes,” including roses, shrubs, perennials and annuals, along with some more unusual options. One highlighted plant is the Panama rose, which is not actually a rose but a shrub. It grows in zones nine through 11 and has been “starting to move into the area as a landscape plant for new construction,” organizers said. The plant was beginning to bud and was expected to be “fully bloomed” by Saturday.
The sale will also include herbs, vegetables and fruit trees, including citrus as well as pears, plums and figs. In addition, organizers said there will be a section called the Master Gardener Backyard featuring plants grown by local master gardeners, with gardeners available to answer questions.
This year’s event is sponsored by Beaumont Tractor, and organizers said the company will have equipment on display.
The sale is set to start at 9 a.m., and organizers encouraged shoppers to arrive early because popular items go quickly. Purchases can be made with cash or card.
The event will be held at the airport near the old terminal. Organizers advised visitors not to go to the Jack Brooks side; instead, head to the old terminal, make a right to the parking lot, and look for the sale set up in the grassy area with trees.
