Howdy, all!

I’ve got a doozy of a yard project. I’m in Michigan (6a) and have loamy sand.

In Dec ‘24 we got a new septic put in and they ripped up about a 1/4-1/2 acre of our yard. We then had a baby so last year we did nothing with the torn up yard and it led to TONS of weeds (can’t quite figure out what the big ones are but they are everywhere, shown in photos 4&5).

My family is focusing on getting the yard going this spring and summer but we don’t really know where to start. There is no grass, only weeds, in the areas I’m hoping to improve. Do I go clover? Wood chips and plants? We are in a deer tick heavy area, also.

As far as goals for the space, we’d like to have the ground covered to avoid the unruly spread of weeds. We used to have a fire pit back there (shown in photo 6) but that got ripped up for the septic.

At this point, I’ve started hand weeding the insanity but I really don’t know what to do from there!

Any help is appreciated 🥲
