I'm a newbie — about a year into AV growing. Everything was going well until 2-3 months ago when I started getting some crazy dense growth on several violets. The first photo is SK Yablonevyi Sad (Apple Orchard) Hyb. Kuznetsov, the second is Saratoga Trail Hyb. Khoe, and the third is Gene's Blue Ice Hybrid. Lloyd. The Yablonevyi actually has a weird stalk of tiny leaves growing off the side. They were all starter plants last summer and are all in 2-1/2 inch pots wick watering with two strands of nylon mason line (as seen in fourth photo). They are planted in 60% perlite and 40% miracle gro all purpose potting mix. I use city tap water with 1/4 tsp of liquid super thrive 7-9-5 added to each gallon of water and they are under a 4 foot 30W GE LED grow light (photo 5) set about 10 inches above the plants and turned on for about 8 hours per day. Don't hold back! What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Very odd, doesn’t quite look like fasciation to me but that would be the closest abnormality. Sometimes nutritional imbalance can cause irregular growth like extreme suckering. Without an obvious cause & if no one else knows an exact cause, I would experiment. Try removing all the abnormal growth from one of your plants, and stop fertilizing it. Another, I would repot into a mix without added fertilizer (Miracle Gro contains fertilizer), stop fertilizing, and remove all abnormal growth. See if either continues to put out more abnormal growth or lesser amounts. If they continue to put out abnormal growth, then you know it’s not your combination of fertilizers and can try something else, such as adjusting the lighting or using only bottled water…something like that.
