Support growing for community garden in Enderby

A local group is looking to establish a community garden in Enderby, and city council has indicated it likes the idea.

The Enderby Community Garden Society presented a request for council support to create a community garden at council’s March 16 regular meeting.

The initiative would allow people in the community to lease garden plots for a nominal fee, with volunteers providing gardening education and support.

Representatives of the society said discussions are ongoing regarding two potential sites for the community garden.

The society asked that council identify the type and level of support it would be prepared to offer, such as a water connection, signage, water usage or a financial donation.

Council expressed support for the community garden in principle, but requested more information to clarify the specifics of the society’s request. Council invited the society to communicate the particulars of its request once they are known so that support can be evaluated at that time.

An Enderby Community Garden Facebook group was created in May 2025. It advertised an open house the society hosted on Feb. 7 at the local seniors centre for people to attend and share their ideas for a community garden.

“Thank you all for coming out and showing your support of a Community Garden in Enderby!” the group said after the event. “We had a great turn out with some council members and the mayor in attendance.”
