As keen gardeners well know, with springtime comes the temptation to fill your yard with vibrant blooms – but you might not have the space to do so. I’m certainly dreaming of a garden filled with flower beds and sprawling planters, but right now I’ll have to settle for a tiny patio with a distinct lack of floor space.
The solution? Vertical gardening. This will help you make the most of every square inch of space, while adding plenty of visual interest – and if you’re shopping around, I’d snap up the Lidl Livarno trellis before it sells out.

Bring a whimsical touch to your garden with this metal trellis. It might be decorative, but it also allows you to experiment with climbing plants, which is ideal if your garden is on the smaller side.

While garden trellis ideas are easy to find, it can take time to figure out what works for your space. With a trellis like this one, however, you can try out endless configurations: the metal frame is lightweight and portable enough to move around, but it’s certainly pretty enough to make a statement no matter where it’s placed.
Plus, of course, you’ll save valuable floor space for larger planters or raised beds. Vertical planting is one of the very best ways to transform a small yard, whether you’re working with a tiny lawn or a narrow patio.
As the spring weather warms, it’s natural to want to spend all your spare time outside – even if your garden doesn’t quite feel suited to sun lounging (or lavish garden parties).
I was desperate to soak up the sun once winter finally departed, but my small patio felt somehow cramped and yet simultaneously overlooked (such is the joy of an urban garden, especially when you live in a city walk-up.)
With climbing plants draped across my trellises, however, I now have a collection of rather elegant privacy screens, and I’m free to enjoy my patio in peace.
Wooden trellises can, of course, be more of an investment than metal versions, but I was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of affordable options. IKEA’s Askholmen trellis will set you back $45, and you can find a slim wood trellis at Lowe’s for just $25.
In comparison, metal trellises might not offer that traditional, romantic look, but they’re definitely the most affordable alternative I’ve spotted (and if you’re worried about how to put up a wall trellis, these don’t require much DIY.)

Plus, I’m rather partial to the intricate wrought iron designs – I’ve also got my eye on Walmart’s urban decor trellis, which features some dainty botanical motifs.
Before I added trellises to my patio, I relied on stylish plant stakes to create that soaring, vertical look (IKEA’s Doftrips mini trellises are ideal; you can add them to any pot.)
At just $7.99, however, options like the Lidl Livarno trellis are too good not to try.
Whether you choose trailing flowers or lush foliage, trellises will fill your garden with color. And if you don’t have room for elaborate borders or beds, these vertical options helps to mix up your planting, adding welcome dimension and interest to even the smallest space.
