I moved into this house in 2020, and the first thing I did was take a rototiller to the lawn, apply some composted steer and chicken, and add a deep wood chip mulch. Then I brought the plants from my old garden (a much smaller space).

Half the yard is gravel because the house wants was used as a daycare center. Underneath the gravel is weed barrier, the thick felty kind. I spent several weeks digging through the gravel to remove the barrier where I wanted to plant. (This process is ongoing!) removing the weed barrier also made a huge difference to the dogwood on one side of the garden; it was sickly and only blooming on the far side; now it has a heavy bloom every year.

I love your bog garden! Did you make a diagram of how you made it?
