Beckley, W.Va. (WVVA) – Raleigh County residents gathered at the Miners Memorial Garden in Beckley to honor the victims of the Upper Big Branch Mine Explosion.

16 years ago, 29 miners passed away in the explosion in the April 5th, 2010 explosion, leaving a tragic mark on the community.

For Jeanie Sanger, the memory of her brother Benny Willingham endures.

He was a roof bolter operator who left a positive impact on those he helped in his community.

“Wonderful, wonderful man. Good, Christian man. I miss him everyday.” Jeanie Sanger said.

We will continue to remember those who passed tragically and give our condolences to those affected.
