My wife and I did a little project that took us 2 days to complete. 1 year ago we bought a house with a wooden deck on the back. It was hollow under it and animals used to go in and out. We decided to remove it and make something else.

On Friday my wife said… "Let's remove the deck and do something else with the area." Welp, we decided to remove the deck and find something to build… In no time we had the idea and decided to go with it… no buts, no questions, we just did it. We didn't really care about the outcome. The home depot was probably tired of constantly seeing us for 2 days straight ๐Ÿ˜‚ We spent $700 on tools and materials… It's not perfect but we did this and we are proud since we have 0 experience.

That's it, just wanted to share what we did ๐Ÿ˜…

I think weโ€™re all in agreement this was a terrible idea.

  2. What’s going to go on all that rock? Container gardening? Hot tub? I can’t imagine what I’d do with this myself….what are your ideas?

Retitle โ€œI fucked up my backyard in 2 days!โ€ Jokes and playful jabbing aside OP, the work you did was executed really well and you should be proud of the effort and intention. What many people are pointing at is there are some flaws in your design that will cause headaches later down the line. That rock is going to go Everywhere with a capital E. Also the fabric you put down is really only meant to keep one layer of stuff out of another layer of stuff (i.e. keep the dirt from rocks) itโ€™s not going to do anything for weeds. Also without proper ground prep and leveling, thereโ€™s no guarantee thereโ€™s enough drainage to stop that from being an uneven mess in a few years. HOWEVER. Donโ€™t let that dissuade you from setting out a lawn chair and cracking an ice cold beverage of choice, all that is a problem for later. Enjoy what ya built and learn from it for the next one.

FYI OP Reddit hates any type of landscape rock.ย

  5. Nice. I’d actually remove the square pavers and just leave it all rocks. Or add more square pavers so that it’s easier to use. Then put a couple of seats and maybe a moveable fire pit. I’d also soften up the side of your house by buying a bunch of pots and adding plants.

Nice job, much better than anything I could do myself (except the colors ๐Ÿคข)
