Sorry this happened to you. I would let it dry out almost completely, then rent a tiller from the big box store, till the whole yard, and and re-seed it. Looks like it’s gonna be extremely lumpy if you don’t do something to smooth it out again

Start raking from the road up it’ll be fine

You’d be better off spending the money on sod. You could let this dry out and rake it back in, but you don’t have any grass and seeding isn’t worth it in the south.

I did that once In my first house. Spent all weekend on that shit. Two days later there was a literal river running through my yard and washed it all away. Pissed me off so bad I never tried it again. That was the only time that water had ever ran through my yard like that.

If it hasn’t germinated just spread it back out.

What’s the forecast? If no more rain for a stretch, rake now and get it as even as you can.

This happened to my place cause it’s on a hill.

I had to use the rolls of straw and biodegradable stakes over it, in order to keep it all in place.

    Sucked but lesson learned

Bummer for sure, but not the end of the world! That lawn is going to be lush soon enough.

Question: I have the exact same issue, but the overseed I put out has already sprouted. Am I able to rake, or am I stuck with the mess until the new sprouts are more developed/mature?

Note, this is an established yard that was overseeded to beef up the thinner spots. I applied 50/50 compost/sand and then overseeded. The sand remained in place, and the organics washed out like OP’s photo.

So… you guys just lay the top soil on top of the hard soil? Do you not rake and and of mix the boundary layer between the soils?

Happens to me in NC almost every year in the fall when I reseed. Tropical storms comes and drops ridiculous rain week after I spend all week seeding and spreading compost. Washes it all in the street and I have to do it again.

What’s the forecast? If no more rain for a stretch, rake now and get it as even as you can. I’d still rake today. Hopefully rain is lighter but I wouldn’t go crazy until you get a stretch of less heavy rain. Then I’d probably light reseed and a bit of topsoil. It’s not the cheapest, but sod could be your option if this is going to be a long term battle

I spent months trying to grow grass from seed on a slightly inclined part of my yard and without fail heavy rains in GA always wrecked it. Sod and never look back.

Welcome to the game. Rake out that top soil evenly again. Spread some extra seed. Then pray.

What seed did you throw down in Florida? I’m near Jax and damn near everyone is sodding.

that looks like alot of sand under a lil bit of topsoil.. if i were you id get a rake up the top soil into a pil on the driveway .. get a double or a tripple pass aeration .. seed.. then rake that top soild back of the top of it.. then go over it with a roller so the it gets into those holes a lil bit more..

I wonder if silt fencing every 6 – 8 feet would help. That way if it does move some it can’t go to far. Then when you finally need to mow it you should have enough roots to hold the dirt. You could probably cut some weed barrier into strips to use since I don’t know how easy it is to find silt fence.

My brother in pain. I did my whole lawn with 11 cubic yards about 2 years ago…then hurricane Helene rolled through and washed 60% of it away.
