At the White House today, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted the annual Easter Egg Roll.

“One year ago, a little bit more, our country was dead. We were a dead country. We had an administration that didn’t know what the hell they were doing,” Trump said during his remarks at the family-friendly event. “Today, we have the hottest country anywhere in the world. We’re respected by everybody. That’s the way we’re going to keep it.” He addd, “And most importantly, I want to just say Happy Easter and God bless America. We have the greatest country on Earth. God bless you all. You are very, very special people.”

As part of the Easter Egg roll, guests listen to stories being read in the Rose Garden—which was paved over last year, so the White House placed fake grass down.

Despite criticism over the new Rose Garden, which now resembles Mar-a-Lago due to the patio furniture, Trump said, “We’re getting great reviews on the Rose Garden,” without specifying who those reviews were from. “It’s a beautiful white stone,” Trump said of the new surface. “It’s a stone that’s the same color as the White House itself. And because it’s very white, it’s going to reflect the heat. It’s not going to be very hot like if you had a dark stone.”

During the 2025 White House Easter Egg Roll, Melania read stories to children in the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, which has since been destroyed in the demolition of the East Wing. The garden was historically used by the first lady for outdoor receptions.

“President Kennedy loved gardens very much, and as you said, he planned this garden with Jacqueline, and I know that it makes him very happy to have it dedicated to her,” Janet Lee Auchincloss, Jackie’s mom, said during the 1965 garden dedication. “And I cannot think of anything that could have more meaning to all the people who care about Jackie than to have this lovely garden as a memory of the years that she shared with him here.”
