🌱 Seed of the Day – Coreopsis tinctoria (Tickseed / Dyer’s Coreopsis)
April is Native Plant Month, and I’m sharing a Pacific Northwest native seed every day that I’m starting in my greenhouse 🌿
Today’s plant:
• Coreopsis tinctoria (Tickseed / Dyer’s Coreopsis)
• Native to most of the United States
• Annual
• Full sun
• Up to 3 feet tall
• Blooms yellow to reddish-brown in late summer to early fall
• Traditionally used as a natural dye 🎨
🌱 Germination Tip:
I surface sowed my seeds (they need light to germinate). I tested two methods—on top of a seed snail and in a cell tray—and both germinated well!
📍 Growing Zone:
Hardy in zones 2–12 (I’m in Zone 8b – Western Washington)
