The previous owners of this house must have got this driveway put in when the pine tree was much smaller. I would like at least to remove the area in red. Any ideas how I could most easily remove the driveway while making sure I don’t damage the roots?

That will be extremely detrimental. You can’t do this without harming and likely killing the tree
it looks deteriorated enough that water is moving through. The standard removal process might be rougher on it than just picking at it as it falls apart
That looks like very old/degraded asphalt. You can remove it by hand but it will be laborious. First, get a masonry blade for your skil saw or rent a concrete saw and cut a line in the asphalt where you want the driveway to end in a nice neat line. Don’t cut too deep, you will cut the roots. 2-3” should work. Then go to one of the edges and dig back the dirt until you find the edge of the asphalt. Slide a shovel under and pry up the asphalt. You may have to drive a breaker bar under the asphalt to help break it up/get it started.
Cover driveway with woodchips and forget about it 🤷🏻♂️
