Hi! I’m brand new to gardening and have zero experience, so I’m definitely learning as I go 😅

I planted some dahlia tubers and things have been pretty stagnant. The leaves haven’t really shown much noticeable growth over the past couple of weeks, so I’m starting to wonder if that’s normal or if I’m doing something wrong.

Right now they’re mostly indoors, but I’ve been putting them outside in full sun for a couple hours a day with my seedlings.

Should I be watering them at this stage? I’ve just been gently misting so far

Is it normal for them to take this long to show growth once they have a sprout, or am I being dramatic?

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:

When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!

*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).

If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.

If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

  2. You’re just being impatient with them, as they can take their dear sweet time to pop up, and progress. You have to remember that they’re summer flowers, so they’re not going to show rapid initial growth.

Yes, you should be watering once they are actively growing like this. Particularly when they are exposed to full sun.

Wait, are you trying to take cuttings or just excited to plant the tuber out once it’s warm enough?
