Novice gardener here, I've got a 20x40ft garden and am growing a ton of veg.

The cabbages seen here were up potted from their cells about a week ago (into normal soil) and have grown quite big, quite quickly. I'm wondering If they'll be okay in these solo cups for another 3 weeks as I am unable to plant them in my home garden until then.

*My other question: my tomatoes (about 3-4 sets of true leaves, up potted to potting soil into solo cups about a week ago) are starting to wilt/turn purple– lack of drainage maybe? Need fertilizer? they certainly get enough light.

*Okay, ONE more question: aside from trimming these leeks/scallions, how can I help them thrive?

any advice is appreciated, thanks!

  1. Imo when plants turn red / purple it’s usually protective when there’s an excess of light (anthocyanins and carotenoids vs chlorophyll or something like that) Are your lights on a timer? They need a bit of rest at night. If that’s all set then maybe experiment with pulling the light back a teeny bit? But I’d be surprised if they really need it. These look great!

ETA: internet says it could be a nutrient deficiency, maybe they just need food

  2. Trimming the scallions won’t help them thrive; it actually has been found to reduce yield. You should trim only if they’re otherwise going to be burned by the light.
