I’m no expert, but in my very brief research on these things, my general rule is: leaves of three, let it be. If said leaves are shiny, that “let it be” part goes double.

Does appear to be poison ivy

Tricky one. If you look at the leaves in the background, some have notches – that says poison ivy to me. But the leaves in the foreground don’t really show all the indicators – no notches, no reddish stems. I’d assume the worst to be safe.

That is for sure poison ivy.

Yes thats satans ivy. There are a few varieties that have different leaf shapes. But they all make urishirol.

Poison ivy all day.. three shiny leaves tells me I’m gonna avoid that.

Looks like poison ivy to me. Glossy, correct leaflet structure, looks like alternate arrangement of leaves on main vine, and typical surroundings.

Looks like one of the four North American viney species of *Toxicodendron*. Leaves are alternate. Twig and shoot form fits. Too small to have the distinctive hairy tendrils they use to climb.
Not as reddish stems/petioles as most poison ivy (*T. radicans*) in early spring or bright sun. Also more fuzzy (pubescent) than typical eastern NA poison ivy. That’s probably throwing off folks here. Might be eastern poison oak, which retains pubescence underneath as the leaves mature.
Assuming you are in North America. An approximate location would narrow things down. Both eastern poison ivy and western poison oak are quite variable in appearance and form.

Thanks all I have some pictures of younger leaves but can’t figure out how to add them.

Yep, it’s got the typical – 2 connected leaves while the 3rd leaf in the set has an extra long petiole (leaf stem). Thats a textbook poison ivy “thing”. Once you know to look for that, it stands out from other plants pretty well, despite all varying leaf shapes….that single extra long petiole is a dead giveaway.

It’s that time of year again! The poison ivy posts are upon us!

That is in fact poison ivy – long petiole on middle leaf, slight sheen, 3 leaf, climbing vine. If it gets on your skin, i recommend Tecnu RIGHT AWAY or dawn dish soap and scrub. do not use hot/warm water – room temp/cool so your pores dont open. 🙂 stay safe!
