I originally planted peppermint seeds and was wondering if they were actually peppermint, and people told me the sprouts were tomatoes. After a little while this is how they look.

Are they actually tomatoes or are they peppermint like i thought I planted? Is it still too early to tell?

1000% tomatoes. Mint family looks totally different. Square stems, opposite leaves.

From a non gardener, never gardened before. Definitely tomatoes.

You can tell as early as when they sprout that they are tomato seedlings.

As a gardener who has a patch of mint that I’m constantly pushing back, and a few tomato plants going now, and who is engaged to a tomato obsessed partner, these are tomatoes.

Those are tomatoes. Do you remember what the seeds looked like? Mint seeds are dark and teeny tiny, almost too little to see clearly with your naked eye. Tomato seeds look like the things inside of a tomato, which are the seeds.

    Yes, they are absolutely tomatoes!

Yeah, those be tomatoes. The new leaf growth coming out is a telltale sign of it.

Those hairy stems are a tell tale tomato trait (and several other plants) also mint spreads like wildfire and is hard to eradicate when you realize the mistake you’ve made.

    Avoid.

Tomatoes anyway you’d be better getting cuttings of peppermint than planting them from seeds

Tomato leaf is one of my favorite smells in the world! Very distinct.
