*Garden designer Darcy Daniels* takes you on a late March/early April walkabout through three spaces: the neighbor’s parking strip garden to the south, her sunny front yard, and the shaded backyard. It’s not quite high season yet, but the garden is changing every day and there’s a lot to enjoy in the process.

*eGardenGo* is Darcy’s garden design resource — plant combinations, profiles, and planting plans built from 25 years of hands-on experience in NE Portland, Oregon (USDA Zone 8b/9a). Browse the plant database and combination library at https://www.egardengo.com/explore-plants

  1. So happy to see I’m not too far behind! It’s fun to get my garden ready in the spring, and it’s great weight bearing exercise for my bones. Thank you for all your teaching and sharing. I learn so much!❤

  2. When I’m in Portland I keep my eyes open hoping I might see your garden someday. I’m working on mine, aiming for that lush, full undergrowth. Unfortunately, I think our maple trees are sucking up a lot of the water. And our little dog pees on things. And the deer eat things they are not supposed to like. 😂 It’s a work in progress, for sure. We live south of Salem, between Turner and Jefferson.

  3. Love the walk-throughs. What's happening w your crape myrtle at this time of year? Last autumn, I planted a nearly fully grown Natchez CM in my east facing pnw garden, and I wonder if I should've put it farther away from the house for better sun exposure. It's still looking very asleep, no buds at all. In comparison, the Stewartia pseudocamilia has a smattering of small leaves already.

Would you ever consider posting a Birds Eye view garden plan of your gardens? I'd really enjoy that!

  4. Darcy I love your landscape. I would love to mimic some of your plant selections but we have a bunny problem in our Seattle suburb neighborhood. I’ve lost many new plants, especially planting in early spring. Do you have any suggestions or good plant selections that are bunny/rabbit proof? Having a busy schedule with kids it’s hard to remember to spray bunny repellent.

  5. Sigh, this is precisely how I want my yard to be. Except I get part sun with some tiny pockets of full sun. What would you call this style? Any books/resources you’d recommend? I ripped up my tiny front yard lawn out but now I’m overwhelmed by choices and how to style it to actually make it look good. Now it’s just a blank yard with mulch lol.

Edit: after binging lots of your videos, I found the confidence (or delusion lol) to finally tackle plant selection. I’ve started planting and I’m so excited to see how it all turns out.

  6. Just found this video and must say I'm in love with your garden.
Such a natural flow of texture and color.
    Looking forward to more vids.
