I put down some Scott’s Weed and Feed about 2 weeks ago. Around the same time my neighbor had TruGreen come and do whatever they do. Today when I went to cut the grass I couldn’t believe the difference in our lawns.
For $30 and 15 minutes of walking around the lawn you can get awesome results compared to the mediocre job TruGreen does with their applications despite charging $100s every visit.
Edit: Scott’s – Dark Green , TruGreen – Lighter Green
Edit: I used “Weed and Feed” Willy nilly. I actually used Scott’s Crab Grass preventer. The bag with the blue not the yellow.

So which is which?
Same results in the South. Neighbor bahumbugging over my lawn versus their service.
Scott’s had more iron in it.
Do this month by month, for science!
You put down fertilizer. Trugreen put down crabgrass preventer. So what’s your point?
Dang, line is straight!
So many factors that can be the difference here, in particular just how the lawn was taken care of last year
Looks great!
I’ll say it in every thread, someone who is consistent with their mowing and watering, using Scott’s correctly will outperform 85% of the neighborhood. They have perfected the “I just want decent results easily” market.
Trugreen probably put down a pre-emergent. Did you? Or did you just do weed and feed
TruGreen nearly killed my neighbors lawn many years ago. I don’t get how they are still in business.
I’ve never been impressed with any of the subscription lawn care services like TruGreen but time has value and not everyone is willing or able to do it themselves.
Iron vs. nitrogen
Just imagine what results you’d get with a better product than scotts
I always tell people strictly adhering to Scott’s 4-Step program along with aeration, overseedng, and spot spraying/pulling will get you a better lawn than 90% of your neighbors.
That extra 10% is tough, expensive, and time consuming.
I have food results with Scott’s. In yard products you do get what you pay for. And of course doing it yourself saves $. Nice looking yard sir.
Most of my grass is dead, so I’m jealous of both yards
looks beautiful opie
In my first house, my neighbor took a LOT of pride in his lawn and it did look the best in the neighborhood ….. Until I moved in.
Dude did the same thing – TruGreen servicing, looked like garbage compared to mine after I was done with it.
Essentially the same thing you did, took about 2 hours per YEAR and probably @ $200 per year to make it look better than a “pro” lawn for well over $700/year.
Both trugreen and scotts are a waste of money. You can get 10x the results for half the price
If your point is that the Scott’s is better I wish you would have swapped the names in the title. Lol.
Mine looks pretty green so far – idk what my guy uses
Had TruGreen all last year because my brother worked there. Crap. Garbage. Waste of money.
Your lawn looks great! Just remember that too much Nitrogen can cause cause problems later in the year with fungi.
Well at least we know it wasn’t done with a Scott’s spreader.
You can actully do better quality for the same price, or equivalent for cheaper. The walmart generic is like 1/2 the scotts price and pretty equivilant.
This isn’t quite fair, yard on the right was cut way shorter
It was on sale for 35 bucks for a giant bag! Can’t recommend it highly enough! It’s the only place to get the Max 👍🏻
The neighbor should send this picture to true green for a refund.
Is it too late to apply this if I were to in my lawn?
Why is that line so straight? I think it would be more “organic”, like wavy. Does any know, I’m curious. 🙂
Did you use any pre emergent? Nice looking yard btw
This is so on par with my lawn vs my neighbors’ lawn, except Tru Green did their lawn way dirtier than your neighbor’s. This happened 5 years ago, and they have never recovered from it.
When I feel like it needs it, I willy-nilly sprinkle some Scotts Weed and Feed (probably twice a year), water it in, and my grass is always just a deep, beautiful green (good enough for me), and theirs looks like the tangible representation of the psyche of a kid raised by helicopter parents.
This year, I am going to experiment with using my aquatic turtle’s tank wastewater to see what happens, though. It has worked well for all my other growing things so far (I tend to have a black thumb), so I am interested in seeing how it might work for my lawn.
Which one used iron?
Tru green just didn’t put down iron.
TruBrown
Noob question: doesn’t the pre-emergent in Weed and Feed prevent all seeds from germinating? Did you overseed as well, or just Weed and Feed? Can you overseed after pre-emergent or should I wait until Fall for aeration and overseeding?
As funny as this is the reality has much more to do with the fact that your neighbor is scalping the crap out of his lawn
Throw some chelated iron on that bish watch it turn
