I've never had a trichocereus flower and now it's happening. Trichocereus Imperialis (E.thelegona x Echinopsis eyriesii v.grandiflora). I'd love to cross this with a bridgesii, Peruvianus or pachanoi

  1. How long do y'all think I have until the flower grows and opens?

  2. How long does pollen last? If I source some, will it stay good in the mail until the flower opens? Keep it in the fridge?

  3. Any tips?

Congrats. Seven years and counting here and no flowers yet 🙃

    1. From fuzz ball to blooming flower takes a couple weeks. I would guess 2-3, but I don’t have that particular cactus.

    2. If you can ship insulin you can ship pollen. Would need ice packs etc, but it’s definitely possible. No clue who sells pollen though.

    3. I used a paint brush to transfer the pollen to the flower and then put a plastic bag over it (the kind you put produce in). I’ve only done it twice and only once with preserved pollen and that time failed so take with grain of salt.
