I bought my home in May '21. The landscaping was mostly non-native shit. I decided I loathed the ridiculous tiny pool; my SO named it "The Puddle." I found a dead nestling in the pool after our first big thunderstorm and decided The Puddle and I needed to break up. It took a couple years to get an idea of what I wanted. My backyard overhaul was completed two years ago.
All invasives were sent to the landfill (Rose of Sharon, ligustrum, etc.). Most non-native, non-invasives (gardenias, hydrangeas, Chindo viburnums) were moved to make room for natives.
A few of the natives I've added are dogwood, serviceberry, American elderberry, redbud, azaleas, Florida anise, buttonbush, baptisia, ninebark, heaps of nectar flowers (goldenrod, swamp sunflowers, milkweeds, asters, St. johnswort, oakleaf hydrangeas, etc.). Too many to name.
The frog pond is one of my favorite features in the redesign. We have several permanent resident bronze frogs and other species come to spawn (Cope's gray tree frogs, American toads, green tree frogs).
Dr. Doug Tallamy gave me the inspiration and courage to go all in on Homegrown National Park. (I was already part way there before I knew anything about him.)

I’m also in the southeast, this is really awesome inspiration! you did a great job. That pool in pic 1 is pretty goofy, I agree. TBH a hot tub with a cover could’ve been a nice alternative in that general area, but I like the covering you added. Also like the stone, etc.
Great job 😀
Beautiful!
