I keep hearing Bermuda is considered a weed by many, and it loves sun and can withstand droughts. That sounds perfect to me since I don't want to do that much maintenance and my lawn is basically nukeable at this point. How many years will it take if I transfer it from this planter and then fert and water it outside? How do I know when the roots are strong enough? Any other tips? Thanks!

Define what you mean by maintenance because bermuda here in NC will need to be mowed a lot, like 2 times a week depending on how much sun/water it gets

  2. Too many factors to consider like lawn size and which variety of seed you used, some bermuda spreads aggressively others like to chill. You would probably be better off buying a pallet of something like tahoma 31, celebration, or tiftuff. They spread fast and have lower vertical growth than other bermuda varieties. You could just put it down in a checkerboard pattern and let it spread that will be much faster than a planter sized strip of grass.

Im in NC and I just started planting Tall Fescue because I hear it’s pretty drought and cold tolerant. Bermuda will go brown/dormant in the winter.

I think Bermuda might be the highest maintenance turf grass there is

About 1/4 of our yard is Bermuda and other than 1/4 of the yard looking dead for months every winter, my real issue is how insistent it is about getting into our flower beds. It self-repairs really well though.

Bro, you don’t need to start Bermuda like vegetables 🤣 buy some seed and a seed spreader and you will have more Bermuda than you know what to do with in short order
