I was planning to fertilize soon and see if the lawn will crowd out the clover and weeds some. Should i put down pre-emergent? Anything else?

Clover typically means you have low nitrogen

Pre-emergent doesn’t stop clover. You need nitrogen in your soil to help control it.

But to kill it, you need Triclopyr. Apply now, before it kills your grass and you need to reseed.,

Pre-emergent is still a good idea if you haven’t done it yet..

I’m a big fan of aerating, fertilizing, use chems to kill weeds

Some clover species are an indication of low nitrogen.

They actually fertilize your lawn a little

  5. Lol I overseeded last spring WITH clover 😂

Behind on fertilizer and need to spray 3way

I like to spot treat it with round up for lawns. Gets rid of it instantly and easily. No point in fighting it.

Sheesh the anti lawn people really trying to come in here and spread more weed love. Enjoy your clover fantasy yards that’s totally not patchy and doesn’t bog up your mowers is what I would say to them.

2,4-D with Dicamba will set it back but clover is tough. Fertilize the grass (N) to expedite growth and cut your lawn high to choke out the clover. Healthy grass is the best clover control.

Recommended pre emergent as you stated you are going to do. Look at the Andersons brand. I have had excellent success with this. You could also do a soil test through your local land grant university. They are usually cheap and tell you if your soil needs anything

  10. Clover used to be included in seed mixes, and clover in lawns was desirable. But when lawn herbicides killed weeds, but clover too, the manufacturers had big ad campaigns to make clover undesirable.

It’s the same reason we have eggs and bacon for breakfast- corporate advertising.
