Today I bought this orchid and I’m wondering what variety it is. The label says Phalaenopsis ‘Christel’, but after a quick Google search I couldn’t find anything that confirms this, at least about the ‘Christel’ part.

The reason I bought it is because it’s much larger than the orchid I already have. I’ve never seen such a large orchid in my country before, and it was very cheap so I couldn’t resist. In the second picture, they’re placed next to each other so you can see the size difference. The one I already have is a Phalaenopsis too, right?

So I’m mainly wondering if this actually is a ‘Christel’, or what variety it might be?

If you are a beginner and purchased your orchid at a grocery store, more than likely it is of the genus Phalaenopsis. Most common orchids, especially Phalaenopsis, are hybrids and it is difficult or impossible to identify the name. This isn’t to say your orchid can’t be identified. In many cases, it might be possible to somewhat identify the parents of your orchid.

It looks similar to Phal I-HSIN sesame . But I am honestly not sure. It is a beautiful big flower!

if it didn’t come with a tag or the tag was incorrect, it is unfortunately not possible to actually give it a name. there are too many varieties of phalaenopsis that look too similar. but yes both your plants are phalaenopsis-type orchids
