Many folks have already read through plant catalogs and are planning their 2026 gardens. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach-Bremer County is hosting an informative and educational class to help with their plans and get some early seeds started for spring. The class is at no cost and open to all ages and families.

The class will be held on Thursday, April 16, from 5-5:45 p.m. at the Sumner Library, to provide an opportunity to attend and gain helpful gardening insights. As an extra bonus, a supply of free garden seeds will be available while supplies last.

Topics include seed selection, pest control, garden site selection, weed control, and raised bed plans. Then, attendees will be able to get their hands dirty and plant seeds for later transplant into their gardens. The seeds, potting mixture, and planting pots will be available, or folks can bring their own. Ron Lenth, the Bremer County Program Coordinator for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach – Bremer County, will be the presenter for this class. For further information, please contact the Bremer County Extension office at 319-882-4275.
