Bought this mower 1.5 yrs ago, never replaced the blades, recently ive realized my mower is not chopping the lawn nicely (see pic2) not sure if this is a blade issue? Are my blades looking fine (no rust)?

Don’t replace, just sharpen them. Can do it with a drill and sharpener attachment.

Disconnect spark plug and get a sharpener that mounts to a drill and sharpen the blade. Easy peasey.

Buy another blade, swap it out and learn how to sharpen the blade. Once sharpened, spray with WD-40, wipe off the excess leaving a thin film to fight off ruse and now it is ready for when the new blade gets dull.

I sharpen mine by hand with a flat metal file. Don’t need to get them razor sharp, but check blade balance with a pencil.

1.5 years ago is nothing. Are you mowing 4 acres or something? If you have a suburban home then that blade is plenty sharp at only 1.5 yrs old

I call a guy and he services my mower every February. Part of the service is to sharpen the blades. Notnsurenifnthey are different, but tou can sharpen mine for about 5 – 8 times before you need to buy new blades cause too much metal is gone after a while.

Genuine question, can you use an angle grinder to sharpen them?

80 grit flap wheel. Use that on an angle grinder and it will make it sharper than the first day you bought it.

I bought a bench grinder just for this when I used to flip mowers

You do not need to have a razor’s edge on that thing. If you had a sharp edge, it would be gone alter the first mow. Sharpen out the nicks and waves while being careful to maintain balance. I use an angle grinder and a “flap“ disk. I have a nail on the wall that I use to check balance. I grip the blade in a bench vise when sharpening.

You can get a corded angle grinder for $30 at Harbor Freight and a few more bucks for a couple flap disks. Upgrade to a cordless grinder for about $60 or so. Watch for sales and coupons. This job does not require a high end grinder, and I have the entry model.

Depends on the condition. Sharpen if not too damaged. Replace if beat to hell.

Replace the blades after 1.5yrs? Huh?

Edit: after looking through OPs history, not sure if troll or dumb but leaning towards dumb.

I used to sharpen with a belt sander. But know I just use a landscaper. I couldn’t stand spending my whole weekend mowing.

Can you stand back a little further and take a photo of the blades?

If you don’t have the ability to sharpen it your self look for a local lawn mower repair place. They most likely will sharpen them for less than $10. My local place sharpens them for $3.

Also might be fine to get it maintenances. It would include a maintenance as well. Usually it’s after so many hours of use but i do mine every other year since mow less than a half acre.

Also make sure if you take it off your self that you put it on the correct way. I put it on upside down the first time and it cut worse than before it was sharpened.
