DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – The Washington Neighborhood Community Garden in Dubuque is looking for a new place to call home.
For the past 15 years, it’s been located in the 18-hundred bock of Washington Street, and serves around 150 people every year.
The owner of the land says he’s looking to develop the property later this year, and the garden will need to move by mid-may.
A GoFundMe has been arranged to help with moving costs, but it’s organizer says the move may impact access to their service.
“I feel like a lot of the work we put into starting the season will now have to go into relocating,” the garden’s facilitator Heidi Zull said. “My concern is how does that impact our community and its access to that resource? How does it impact what we’re able to grow, how much we’re able to grow, and how much we’re able to provide?”
We reached out to the current property owner, Gary Carner. He refused to speak.
