I adopted this avocado tree from a friend moving overseas. Placed by east facing window. It lost almost all its leaves over winter (December, UK) and is growing a few back now, but they don't seem to be doing very well. Is it insufficient light? I've recently moved it to a larger north facing window (I only have two window directions available).
Have been bottom watering when top inch or so of soil feels dry.

Yeah thats definitely not enough light these basically need like full sun from a north facing window unfortunately and since you can give it tbat your next best option will probably be some grow lights for winter and moving it outside if you can for summer.
