My daughter got me a small indoor bamboo plant for my birthday. keep it in my office at work. it is in a small vase filled with stone. I noticed two of the stalks did not look like they were doing that well so I emptied it out and this is what it looks like.

it's in my office and does not receive any direct sunlight, but I do have a window.

The instructions say to water it every 3 to 4 weeks. I watered it every three but this is what's happening. I'm assuming I cannot save the two brown stalks. Can the growth on them be propagated? I would like to save the third stalk. I thought bamboo was pretty resilient so any ideas on what I'm doing wrong would be great.

should I put it in soil instead of rocks?

plant it in soil. it’s a dracaena not an actual bamboo plant – dracaena sanderiana grows in soil in its natural environment. you can get rid of the brown stalks.

No available nutrients in rocks. That thing probably needs some dirt, too.
