Can I use the fish emulsion as a water soluble fertilizer on my strawberries?
I'm in Massachusetts (zone 6b) and i haven't seen any green from my strawberries i planted into buckets last spring yet…WHEN should I assume they AREN'T coming back? They weren't doing so great to begin with 🤔
Good morning. Thank you for all this important information!
What is the yield on the greenstalk tower with strawberries? Also, what is your thought on interplantung strawberries with asparagus?
Thanks for sharing how to refresh the green stalk strawberries. 🍓
Excellent…..perfect timing for my garden
my lower planter strawberries died too
What brands of water soluble fertilizer? Or what specific water soluble is good for strawberries?
I am so glad to see a wonderful garden fighting thistles. I am not alone. Lol. Thank you for all your work with the videos.
Thanks @gary Ive been planting my crowns too high. People stress dont bury the crown and i think i took that too seriously lol.. Thanks for showing the level where the leaves meet the roots. that is the best explaination i have seen.
Great video very timely too! Thanks! Also I was wondering why I can not hype your videos ?
Really validating to see the use of alfalfa. I can get cheap alfalfa rabbit feed, which I use similarly. I mix pine bark or free wood chips with the pellets in new raised beds or planters to kickstart decomposition before adding a planting layer of loam and texture on top. Sources I've read say its basically a 3-1-2? But extremely slow release, so I use it with cottonseed meal, feather and bone where I don't want to have to manage synthetic mixing for larger areas outside, like with potatoes and corn. Best part is less phosphorus buildup vs composted manure. I also grow strawberries in containers fully fed synthetically, and the switch from runners to flowers by reducing the N:K ratio is striking – basically an overnight difference. I am still new to strawberries but I believe its very important not to give too much N over K or you won't get any fruit.
My strwawberries froze the last two winters in my green stalks. Two years ago we had a less harsh winter and they survived just fine. And I had a frost cover over the tower the last three years. I had just redone the green stalk with fresh soil and transplants last summer and they looked great in the fall so I'm very disappointed. I may give up on greenstalks for strawberries because they don't seem to survive harsh winters.
Thanks for this video. Just started bare root strawberries for the first time and appreciate your commonsense approach. I'll be sure to follow all season for helpful tips. Did you leave the Greenstalk planters out all winter? Did you have to do anything to protect the plants? To confirm, do you fertilize with water-soluble only once a month?
Thank you for clearly explaining the crown on the strawberries. I always thought it was the harder part right before the dangling roots.
My Seascape strawberries came today and I will be planting these in a Vigaro vertical tower tomorrow- ty fir the timely video- Steve zone6 b👍
I planted some in my Greenstalk last year, but they don't look like they will come back. Im in Pa 6a, and from Md. but out winters are harsher than Md. I will be getting more to replant the Greenstalks in the event they don't come back.
Gary I was in my local Walmart this evening, they have single strawberry plants for $2.47
What about mulching?
Timely video as I'm getting my first strawberry plants in 2 days! Question- I have the GreenStalks and got the great deal last fall, but forgot to get the spinner bases. Now I can't afford them until the end of April. I'm concerned about the north side of the planter, even though the GreenStalks will be out in the open. Will the north side plants be okay for a month? I'm not sure how high the sun's angle is at this time of year. Also, you cracked me up @6:03 when you said the weeds can sit there or do whatever they want 🤣🤣🤣I don't think they have too many options 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you, Gary! This video was perfect timing as I am getting ready to plant bare root strawberry plants!
