Hi, I’ve had this plant for about 3 years and it’s thriving (maybe a little too much). I want to cut it back so it’ll become bushier rather than just getting taller but I’m not sure if I’ve left it go for too long and now will just cause shock? I’ve read not to cut off more than 30% but I think if I do that and it starts growing outwards, it’ll just become top heavy and won’t be able to support itself.

Should I cut it at all and if so, where should I make a cut? Please help!

Yep, you can definitely prune this rubber plant, and it’s not too late at all. I’d cut just above a node around the height where you want branching to start, probably somewhere in that upper bare section, because ficus usually pushes new side growth from below the cut and that’s how you get a bushier shape. If you’re worried about it getting top heavy, that’s actually more reason to chop and reset it now 😄
