I bought this monkey tail like this (trauma shown) but I feel it’s gotten worse? Possibly when I was replanting? Is this a red flag or just surface trauma? Will it repair itself? (It lives outside and is almost always in direct sunlight, also I haven’t watered since I repotted a few days ago. It’s in a cactus mix soil) Would love advice on how to let my monkey tail thrive as I have no idea what I’m doing lol.

That looks more like old mechanical damage or scarring than an active problem, and monkey tail cactus won’t really “heal” that spot so much as just grow past it. Keep it in strong light, let the cactus mix dry fully before watering after the repot, and don’t baby it too much because with these the bigger risk is usually staying wet, not that scarred patch 😌
