This poor thing has been neglected so bad. Just sitting in my momβs office for years (hardly much light, hardly any watering) I wanna help it. Where do I start?

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.

Iβd start by checking the roots and cutting off any stems that are fully crispy, hollow, or mushy, because this rat tail cactus looks like itβs got a mix of old dieback and stress from years of low light. Then repot into a really gritty cactus mix, give it bright light gradually instead of full blasting sun on day one, and wait to water until it settles in a bit, because with neglected cactus the comeback usually starts at the base and on the healthiest stems first!
