Hi yall,

I have a floppy monstera that I re potted last week in a bigger pot. The idea was to give it a forever pot so it can become massive one day. As a consequence, the plant is super floppy and I have to perfectly balance it so it stands upright. Also, notice the shriveled leaves and brown spots (those have been there for a little over 2 weeks). I used flower soil from Home Depot. Any advice is appreciated, I know I sound like an idiot so trolls please take it easy on me.

Thanks!

Hello! Firstly I’d say the pot is probably too big, how big was the root ball before you moved it up in size & how big of a jump did you go for? You want your monstera to be almost completely rootbound before going up in size which can feel slow but is the best for the plant!

I also read that the more space you give it for roots to grow the plant will prioritise growing roots over leaves and the more space for roots = more energy to root growth and less energy for leaf growth

Normal flower potting mix isn’t the best as monstera need a more airated soil (you can buy pre mixed monstera soil) so adding a load of bark/perlite to the flower soil should help on that front, improve drainage & prevent root rot! Best of luck!
