WOODBURY – The Pomperaug Valley Garden Club welcomes spring with “From Bulb to Bloom: The Story of the Daffodil” with American Daffodil Society Judge Barbara Deysson on Tuesday, April 14. The program will begin at 11 a.m. at the Woodbury Orenaug Firehouse, 25 Quassuk Road in Woodbury. Members of the public are welcome to attend for a $5 donation.

The program will cover a brief history of the daffodil, as well as all the reasons to grow daffodils and the best gardening practices to ensure success with these cheerful harbingers of spring. In addition, Deysson will discuss how daffodils are classified, provide sources to order them, and offer tips for successfully showing them.

Barbara Deysson is a National Flower Show Judge (Master Emeritus) and an American Daffodil Society Judge. She holds a Certificate in Floral Design from the New York Botanical Garden and a Five Star Award from National Garden Clubs (master status in Environmental Studies, Flower Show School, Landscape Design and Garden Studies). She is a Master Gardener and a former member of the Shippan Point Garden Club in Stamford, where she served as president from 1993-1995 and 2003-2005. She is currently a member of the Southbury Garden Club.

The Pomperaug Valley Garden Club, founded in 1927, is a charter member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc., New England Garden Clubs, Inc., and National Garden Clubs, Inc. The club sponsors speakers at monthly meetings, garden-oriented field trips, numerous civic beautification and educational outreach projects in Woodbury, and a scholarship program.
