I lived in a rental last year that came with a dormant (cold, stagnant, inactive) compost bin. the previous tenants must have had chickens because there were remnants of at least 100 eggs.
I was really happy about this because when you move house every 2 years it's hard to get the beans to start composting.
After 6 months or so I brought it back to hot hot life and every day when I added more in a ton of worms would just fall off the sides.
I don't know if this is a good thing, please don't burst my bubble I loved those damn worms!
In summer I would fill it to the brim every couple of days and in a day or 2 it would be only 3/4 or half full it was so active. I was so happy to see it at different times of day and spooky night.
Is this what perenthood feels like?
anyway, I now live by the ocean (the dream) with bad soil (not the dream), and I've tried for about a year to make good compost but failed.
So today I've got myself a tumbling bin and though I won't have so much worm-joy I hope I will have good compost.
