St. Croix CURES will host a free community event for gardeners, homeowners and anyone passionate about protecting the St. Croix River and local groundwater. “Beautiful Yards, Healthy River, Clean Water” will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Hudson.
The event is designed to help residents understand how everyday yard and garden choices — from lawn care products to fertilizer application — can have a direct impact on the groundwater beneath their feet and the health of the St. Croix River, a nationally designated Wild and Scenic River and a treasured regional resource.
Special guest speaker Alex Bouthilet will present “Restoring Native Ecosystems One Seed at a Time,” highlighting prairie, wetland and oak savanna restoration efforts in the St. Croix Region.
“Small choices in our yards can make a big difference for the water beneath our feet and the river we all love,” said Sue Curtis, President, St. Croix CURES. “This event is about awareness, practical solutions and shared stewardship of a resource that belongs to all of us.”
The event is free and open to the public. Children and youth are welcome and encouraged to participate in poster contest and activities.Additional speakers and topic details will be announced in the coming weeks. Visit www.stcroixcures.org and facebook/stcroixcures for more information. St. Croix CURES encourages attendees to bring a neighbor and spread the word throughout the community.
