I'm having this tree taken down due to it being high risk. It has a cavity that collects and holds rainwater. I want it down now so I can replant early.

Looking for ideas on a tree to replace it with. we I am in NE Ohio. My half acre property is a small young oak-hickory urban forest. I would like the tree to provide shade for our back deck eventually. It's about 25 feet away from my house.

I dig a black gum as replacements for maples

Solar aspect is helpful for selecting best species; drawing a line from your deck door to this tree points in which cardinal direction?

Black gum? Otherwise id say sugar maple, white oak, swamp white oak, shortleaf pine, bald cypress, and serviceberry are some ideas
