New homeowner, pretty experienced gardener. I fear I was out of my depth with this juniper. Wanted to limb up only a few of the lowest branches when I for a large break inside the canopy the first time yesterday. The weather was gorgeous and I was a bit overly enthusiastic with the pruning saw…

After removing the broken branches, old limbs that had been hacked off and much of the dead wood, it pains me to look at this thing. I know conifers generally won’t re-sprout and don’t respond to hard pruning. I’m also not confident that I properly removed the branches that split. I was initially worried about taking off too much and now I feel like I’ve done an irreversible crime. How should I proceed going forward?

Thanks in advance.

You should probably just leave it amd do nothing besides keep it healthy like adding a mulch ring. Junipers are highly resistant to pruning so it should recover but won’t ever look the same
