She's not a plant person and I told her strings of pearls were kind of persnickety and all mine died for various reasons. This started at probably about 4 inches and now she has to wrap the plant around the planter because she doesn't have the heart to cut it, but doesn't want it on the floor either. Life is so unfair.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m really hoping we get one person who isn’t paying enough attention and dives in with, “Watering with ice cubes is a guaranteed way to kill your plant.”
I’m on my 2nd one and they’re so wishy washy and I just want them to be cute and grow. I love her pot btw
What is it with ice cubes though?
Every time I start getting in my own head about taking care of plants, I remember that people like this exist and their plants do fine, and I chill out
This belongs in r/mildlyinfuriating š
The plant gods really do favor some people.
I have two of these and they are so easy to care for! Love the pot!
When I used to plant sit for my Mom when she was on vacation, her instructions were measured in Dixie cups.
They love consistency, I too have killed like 4. I over love them ( too much water, light, fertilizer, picking) either way itās me. Your mom and her pearls seem to have an understanding.
This planter is so cute
What a cute planter! šš
If it makes you feel better: my coworker who is a gardener/horticulturalist, told me the other day that typically plants like that are pumped with hormones at the store that inevitably kill them. So they look all beautiful to sell but weāre almost always set up for failure and theyāre set up to die⦠itās so messed up.
I need this planter
I absolutely NEED the link to that hanger!
My string of pearls are super happy with almost no water and direct sun, I just water went they get shriveled
Is the soil directly in the planter?
I could have nice plants, but I have three cats. š
1) that’s a gorgous set up. 2) sounds like me when people say I need to drink more water
I drown mine with water and never let it dry out. I gave someone 3 ft of it last fall

That pot is beautifulĀ
Where did she get that moon thing from?
What a beautiful planter
I had a maranta when I first got the madness that was apparently in the Goldilocks zone by pure blind luck. It went crazy and everyone that saw it marveled at how good it looked. We had to move it literally 6 feet and it died in a few weeks.
Before I moved across the country, I had an orchid from the grocery store that survived on tap water. Maybe once every 3 or 4 weeks, when I remember I would give it a splash of tap water and she was so beautiful. Before that, I killed 2 or 3 orchids by following online instructions. My plants seem to prefer getting ignored
i picture that planter eerely saying “MORE….ICE CUBES” from time to time
I am thoroughly convinced you have to be a mom, or at least an aunty to have good luck with plants like this š
There are no difficult plants, only incompatible love languages. Also, where do I get that cool hanging pot?
I’m gonna be honest with you, I don’t know how your mom has managed this. Nonetheless, hats off to her. My SOP only started growing after a month of not watering it lmao.
I have killed probably 5+ string of pearls, I am simply not built for this task
That’s hilarious. Literally all of mine have died too. Maybe I’ll follow your mom’s methods next time!
Omgosh how gorgeous! Love the planter too
Yeah because its right infront of a window that’s where they want to be
But why not just a bit of water? What does the ice cube do besides making the poor thing cold?
I hear that the trick is the sun needs to hit the soil
Haha! My mom waters all her plants the same! Orchid, pothos, random whatsits⦠all doing fine
My fried has the lushest asparagus fern Iāve ever seen. It cascades four feet like the most incredible green veil. He forgets it exists for months at a time, keeps it in a dark corner of a dark room, uses regular, dense potting mix, basically breaks all the rules and the damn thing is thriving. Itās maddening
I wonder if she cuts it if itāll grow thicker like hair. Cut off the ādead endsā and see if it evens out!!
I want that planter! Please ask her where she got it from
Meanwhile my string of hearts has been on the struggle bus barely hanging on and not growing for 3 years. š„²
I don’t think persnickety means what you think it means.

I LOVE this planter ššš
This is how I have a tomato plant bearing the best damn tomatoes Iāve ever tasted. It produces 4-5 crops/harvests a year. Iāve had it for two years. I have a small outdoor greenhouse (to keep my dogs from eating what Iām growing) and itās on a drip system.
I legit forgot about it. Then one day went in and the entire plant was busting with tomatoes and they were falling over. I had to get sticks and supports in place.
The more I ignore her, the more fruit she gives š¤·āāļø
(Mind you, this is also in Las Vegas⦠where I havenāt even able to keep anything fruit or veggies alive except green onions š¤£)
When I showed my husband (whose parents have been raising tomatoes for decades and are very particular about how to do that) he said they look pretty but I bet theyāll be mealy. He took a bite and his entire face lit up and he said āthatās the best tomato I think Iāve ever eatenā. š

I love when people on the internet remind me that persnickety is a word.
That planter is charming. ā¤ļø
Absolutely hilarious reading this thread. I just wave my hose over the various strings about once a week. Some of them are shrivelling because of dehydration honestly. I wish I could hit them more often but most of my job is focused on selling annuals right now.
I’ve had my string of pearls for 2 years. She’s still alive but I swear to God she has not grown a single millimeter.
