  1. My 5 year old cherry tree got flattened during the night going into Mother's day Sunday by the brick wall between us and the neighbours suddenly collapsed. I just pruned it the day before. Thankfully we managed to get it upright again and so far it's holding itself up again. Fingers crossed I get something more substantial from it than just pips with a thin coat of flesh.

  2. I super appreciate all of these fruit tree pruning videos! They have been really timely for me and my fruit orchard.

  3. Hi Luke, I have a question, once a tree has been pruned to an open center, is there any way to grow it back to a 'central leader' ? About 6 years ago as a tree growing newbie I had followed advice from a University and pruned my trees to open centers, 2 plums & a cherry. I've regretted it ever since. Besides the production aspect, I'm also concerned about the aesthetic aspect, they're in my suburban front yard. In hindsight I wish I had kept a central leader & 'tree shaped' which I consider so much more visually appealing. Thank you šŸ™‚.

  4. I am confined to just pruning the branches hang over my fence . The cherry trees next door have never been pruned in 40 yrs except the side I prune last 20;yrs.

  5. My 8 year old cherry tree barely produces any cherries because in April right when it blooms it starts to snow for a few days.
Also it was heavily pruned every year by my old gardener friend who thinks he is an "expert"
This year I decided to not let him prune it anymore and just leave it alone.

  6. I’m in the AZ mtns and my 3 yr old cherry trees are blooming now. Is it too late to prune them now? I had no idea how to prune them 😔

  7. Awseome info, Luke. Would you show a close-up or tell us of where on the branch u are pruning & is it the same place for all trees?
1-3 inches above, below, or on the node?
    Thank you in advance. ā¤ā¤ā¤šŸ˜Š

  8. Good video. However, I am looking at that tree and would have a tendency to want to remove the branch that sweeps to your right at the top- you called it main stem. I would think taking it back to just after the fork, thereby enabling the other branch to take over as the central leader would enable a more resilient tree that is not prone to breakage at the crotch. Just a thought.

  9. thank you for the video Luke! now i want to see how you spray them, i saw you had a video about Captain Jack Deadbug to keep the pests away because as our cherry trees get bigger i won't be able to cover it up anymore 😊

  10. Luke, thanks for the video. I’m ready to prune my cherry tree right now. I have a 8 year old dwarf cherry tree and it gets good fruit but definitely needs a haircut. But I get these insects that eat the leaves and put holes everywhere and fold the leaves together and stick them shut like a nest I’m thinking. What do I use for them and when do I apply it? Will BT work? Thanks

  11. Will that angle of that central lead cause problems as it gets bigger? Is there chance of it breaking from weight?

PS thanks for the video. I have 2 cherry trees arriving in april!

  12. Just a few hours too late, I pruned mine today. I think I did OK, but I'll need to go back and take off tips, I definitely don't have a pyramid shape.
