    Not necessarily.
But I would throw out the roots, so I have it easier with my new plants.

I always mix old roots with fresh soil!

Mix your potting soil into your compost. Then put it on the garden.

Its probably fairly spent from the little nutrients potting soil has, so its not ideal in that sense.

Old dead roots give microbes more to feed on

Yes i just add fertalizer/ compost and some epsome salts and then Its good to go.

Fine, but does add a viral vector point, depending on plant. Important if growing solanaceae in particular. If this plant was a tom and youre planting Tom’s AND this tom died of unknown causes its just asking for trouble. This is where I mandatorily remind people to rotate their grows.

I used something like that once, dont remember for what, but I remember thinking “oh this could be bad, I’ll monitor” and then nothing ever happened. I think they break down pretty quick over a warm season.

Generally fine, though I’d recommend against growing anything from the same family to curb any diseases that may have developed.

    Hello,
you can use it again, but pay attention to two things:

try to remove as much of the old roots as possible,

and don’t plant the same type of plant that was previously grown in it.

    to avoid soil fatigue

It’s good to add successful plant soils to new plots (and existing ones) they have good live bacteria and fungus that helped the last plants grow. And it’s rare that a small house pot plant will ever deplete the rich potting soil we give them. So just break it up like you did.

No, the roots will break down and help feed the plants.

Enzymes work well for speeding up root decomposition.

Asking this as you’re showing us mixing it in 🤔 me scratching my head? Was he asking us?

Can people starting their gardens in March please shush up their face! Some of us are currently in a snow storm with 10 foot snow banks in their garden and are hugely jealous. That is all. Thank you.

  16. No I’ve never had an issue, those old dead roots will compost into the soil and they have microbes in/on them. I break them up so they in smaller clumps, mix in some fresh compost, more soil (if needed) and you ready to go.

i mean i reuse it, i just see the roots as some free compost when i mix it with some new soil

  18. Next-Honeydew4130

I just break up the roots so I can mix it in a little.

  19. sbtransplant

Hygrozyme will help the breakdown process.

Roots. They’ve got what plants crave!

  21. mithrilhamner

How about in something like 5 gallon pots?

  22. rogue780

    It’s what plants crave.

    Oh wait. That’s electrolytes
